2024 Kick-off Event and Campaign Update

Updated: Aug 5

The Women’s Fund kicked off our 2024 campaign on June 4th at O’Neil’s in Spicer, MN. We are excited to share some highlights from our 2024 Campaign Kickoff event:

  • Rochelle Peterson, owner of Mainstream Boutique, gave a demonstration on upcoming fashion trends and shared her positive grantee experience with the Women’s Fund. Rochelle is a Women’s Fund Steering Committee member and a big believer in broadening Trauma Response Care efforts in Kandiyohi County.

  • Kasey Baker and Jen Johnson with Safe Avenues shared a story of how the Women’s Fund grant dollars helped victims impacted by trauma.

  • Angie Hatlestad and Hallie Johnson, Vice-Chair and Chair of the Women’s Fund, provided a review of our 2023 Year in Review grant highlights at the kickoff event and invited the group to join in our collective giving efforts. • Pastor Jon Dahl of Bethel Lutheran Church and Angie Mateski with Lutheran Social Services of Minnesota, gave an update regarding the Youth Resource Center they hope to create for youths to have a safe and inviting space to spend time, do laundry, “shop” for free personal hygiene items and food supplies, and engage with trusted adults and peers.

A Year of Impact and Gratitude

The Willmar Area Women’s Fund (WAWF) is dedicated to improving the lives of women and children in Kandiyohi County by funding initiatives with our partner organizations. Thanks to your generous donations, we were able to support several critical projects this past year:

  • Trained staff and community on trauma-informed care.

  • Supported Foster Stitches, providing needed items to Foster Care families.

  • Created “Welcome Home Kits” for families transitioning from homelessness.

  • Provided operating support to Safe Avenues for critical care response.

  • Funded the Technology for Families Initiative at Family Promise of Kandiyohi County.

  • Helped create a recreational space for youth at Prairie Lakes Youth Program.

  • Sponsored Kids Connection with Woodland Centers.

We invite you to join our 2024 Caring for Women Campaign. Our Steering Committee has matched the first $10,000 to support trauma response efforts, help rebuild programs, support new initiatives, and strengthen organizations where trauma response care is essential.

Trauma response care encompasses interventions and support for those who have experienced trauma, addressing its psychological, emotional, and physical impacts.

Together, our collective efforts can make a profound difference in our community.
